Banbury West End were due to have 2 matches this week, but yet again one match was a victim of the wet weather. The match that was played was a mens B team match against local team Kingston Bagpuize B in the Oxfordshire league. West End 1st pair Paul Derbyshire and Dean Harris had a brilliant afternoon beating the Bagpuize 1st pair 6-3, 6-1 and also beating the 2nd pair 6-1, 6-1. The BWE 2nd pair, Rob Jones and Paul Froggatt lost to the Bagpuize 1st pair 3-6, 5-7 but beat the 2nd pair 6-3, 6-0. This was another excellent 6-2 win for the BWE mens B team.

The abandoned match was also in the Oxfordshire league. It was a ladies A team match against North Oxford B team in division 2. The team of Denise Sexton, Andi Padbury, Rosie Clark and Sophie Arber were 2-1 up when the gales and extreme rain caused a halt to the proceedings. This now means that the match needs to be re-arranged before the end of March.

Squash & Racket ball club night this Friday 10th Feb, starting at 6:45pm £2 per person, Put your name down stating if you want to play Squash or Racket ball or either. Format is play two games with american scoring up to 15 points, then put your name down again to play against someone else.

I’ll get some pizza’s to eat after play has finished in the club house, (small charge to cover costs) if you only want to play then just turn up, but If you want some food let me know by email so I can get enough. stuart_madle1@hotmail.com

Banbury West End were due to play 4 matches this week but thanks to the snow the mixed match in division 1 of the Oxfordshire league was cancelled. The mens and ladies matches were both played in flurries of snow and bitter conditions; welcome to the delights of winter tennis !!
The first match was a BWE B team against Marsh Gibbon A in the Banbury floodlight league. Ladies Becky Shardlow and Jane King won 6-3, 6-1, and the men Paul Derbyshire and Dean Harris won 6-3, 6-4. Paul Derbyshire and Becky Shardlow played together as 1st mixed pair and won 6-1, 6-1, and Dean Harris and Jane King as 2nd pair won 6-2, 7-6. Another excellent 8-0 win for BWE.
The 1st of the ‘snow flurry’ matches was a West End ladies match against top-of-the-league Witney in division 2 of the Oxfordshire league. First pair Rosie Clark and Andi Padbury had a good afternoon beating the Witney 1st pair 6-0, 6-1, and the 2nd pair 6-4, 6-2. Second pair for BWE, Alison Goult and Wendy Eves Dickins lost to the Witney 1st pair 4-6, 3-6 but had a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win against the 2nd pair. This is a really good 6-2 for BWE ladies.
The 2nd ‘snow flurry’ match was BWE B mens against Oxford Sports D team in division 6 of the Oxfordshire league. BWE had an excellent afternoon dropping only 9 games all afternoon. First pair Ray Armstrong and Robin Woodbridge beat the Oxford 1st pair 6-0, 6-1, and the 2nd pair 6-0, 6-2. The Banbury West End 2nd pair, Paul Derbyshire and Dean Harris beat the Oxford 1st pair in a tight 1st set 7-6, and then 6-0. They also beat the 2nd pair 6-0, 6-0. This is a superb 8-0 result for BWE mens B team.

Banbury West End were meant to have 3 matches this week. One was in the Banbury Floodlight league, a mens in the Oxfordshire league and a mixed in division 1 of the Banbury league against Charlbury. It was this last match that didn’t take place as Charlbury conceded giving BWE an 8-0 walkover.

The Floodlight league match was also against Charlbury which BWE won 7-1. The ladies, Rosie Clark and Andi Padbury won their match 6-3, 6-2 whilst the men Paul Brown and Mike Rogers also won 6-3, 6-4. First mixed Rosie Clark and Paul Brown won 6-3, 6-1 but Mike Rogers and Andi Padbury halved their match. They just lost the 1st set 4-6 but had a convincing 2nd set win 6-0. An excellent result for BWE

The mens match was a B team match against Portcullis C. West End 1st pair Robin Woodbridge and Ray Armstrong had an excellent win against the Portcullis 1st pair beating them 6-0, 6-0. They also beat the 2nd pair 6-0, 6-2. The BWE 2nd pair Rob Jones and Paul Derbyshire had a tough game against the Portcullis 1st pair, but beat them 6-3, 7-5. They also had a convincing win against the 2nd pair winning 6-0, 6-3. This is another excellent 8-0 win for the BWE mens B team

Banbury West End had 2 matches this week, a Floodlight and Mixed match in the Banbury league. The Floodlight B team match was against Hook Norton A team. The West End ladies Becky Shardlow & Jane King halved their match 6-4, 4-6 and the men, Paul Derbyshire and Rob Jones also halved a very tight match 6-7, 7-6. 1st mixed pair Becky Shardlow and Paul Derbyshire did well and won 6-3, 6-1, whilst the 2nd pair, Jane King and Rob Jones halved 6-0, 4-6 which gave BWE a 5-3 victory.
The mixed match, against windy Warwick A in division 1 resulted in a 3-5 defeat. Men Mike Robinson and Jeremy Turner did very well and won 6-3, 6-4 but the ladies Alison Goult and Karen Brooker struggled and lost 1-6, 4-6. 1st mixed pair Jeremy Turner and Alison Goult lost 1-6, 4-6 but the 2nd pair, Mike Robinson and Karen Brooker won the 1st set 6-4 and then had to concede the 2nd set losing 5-7, due to injury. This was disappointing as a win here would have resulted in an overall draw.

BEGINNERS
Players who want to build their game from scratch using modern technique will benefit from individual sessions, and those returning to Tennis after a break will enjoy group sessions such as Rusty Rackets with fellow Club members. Sessions are designed to improve tactics and key skills, with players encouraged to join Clubnight and support Club based activities.

IMPROVERS
More experienced and learning new skills, technique and tactics. Team practice sessions are a must and every chance to practice with fellow Club members, and with individual coaching sessions to improve technique and tactical awareness and your team performance.

ADVANCED
Players will have matchplay experience and are committed to achieving new levels of performance
Advanced players have clear goals – and should aim for individual coaching sessions .
Defined as players who have essential attributes/skills to progress, have matchplay experience and are involved in competitive play, show good commitment to achieving high standards of performance as individuals or as part of a Club Team.
These criteria can be applied to adult and teenage Junior players.

The aim for advanced players should be to compete at their appropriate level during 2012, as individuals or in a Club Team.

Banbury West End had only one match this week, a ladies match in division 2 of the Oxfordshire league against David Lloyd. The West End 1st pair, Alison Goult and Denise Sexton had a good afternoon beating the David Lloyd 1st pair 6-2, 6-4 and the 2nd pair 6-2, 6-1. The BWE 2nd pair, Claire Oldfield and Rosie Clark also had a good afternoon beating the 1st pair 6-2, 6-0 and the 2nd pair 6-3, 6-2. Again an excellent 8-0 win for BWE ladies.

Banbury West End had two very successful matches this week. The first was a mens match in division 3 of the Oxfordshire league against Benson B. First pair Jeremy Turner and Paul Brown did well halving with the Benson 1st pair 6-2, 1-6 and beating the 2nd pair 7-6, 6-0. West End 2nd pair Doug Wade and Ray Armstrong had an excellent afternoon. They beat the Benson 1st pair 6-4, 6-1 and also beat the 2nd pair 7-5, 6-2. This is a really good 7-1 victory for West End men

The second match was a mixed match in division 1 of the Banbury league. Banbury West End wanted a convincing win in this match so were delighted with an 8-0 victory. The ladies, Alison Goult and Andi Padbury won their match 6-2, 6-2 whilst the men, Mike Robinson and Paul Brown won 6-3, 6-1. First mixed pair Mike Robinson and Alison Goult won 6-2, 6-2 whilst Paul Brown and Andi Padbury won 6-3, 6-4. An excellent result.
