Individual and small group sessions sessions can be arranged by calling any of our coaches to discuss the best approach to building your game

BEGINNERS
Players who want to build their game from scratch using modern technique will benefit from individual sessions, and those returning to Tennis after a break will enjoy group sessions such as Rusty Rackets with fellow Club members. Sessions are designed to improve tactics and key skills, with players encouraged to join Clubnight and support Club based activities.

IMPROVERS
More experienced and learning new skills, technique and tactics. Team practice sessions are a must and every chance to practice with fellow Club members, and with individual coaching sessions to improve technique and tactical awareness and your team performance.

ADVANCED
Players will have matchplay experience and are committed to achieving new levels of performance
Advanced players have clear goals – and should aim for individual coaching sessions .
Defined as players who have essential attributes/skills to progress, have matchplay experience and are involved in competitive play, show good commitment to achieving high standards of performance as individuals or as part of a Club Team.
These criteria can be applied to adult and teenage Junior players.

The aim for advanced players should be to compete at their appropriate level during 2012, as individuals or in a Club Team.
All advanced players should be registered with British Tennis go to www.lta.org.uk

Tennis for our community

The North Oxfordshire School Sports Partnership has survived the reorganisation by Government of the provision of sport for al Primary and Secondary Schools in our area.

Year groups are learning the ABC’S and Tennis skills which will lead to competition in the School Games initiative.

With the support of Cherwell District Council, Tennis is now on the agenda during curriculum time for a total of 250 Primary School children this winter, and the summer term after school club at Blessed George Napier will continue in 2012.

Our target is to create long-lasting and beneficial Club School links with 2 Primary Schools and 2 Secondary Schools in 2012.

Adult Club and Team Coaching

Autumn sessions are planned with Corey Butler focusing on the important issues for all Team Players – experienced and less so – covering PreMatch Warmup, Service and Return, Doubles Tactics and playing at Net.

Loads of drills and practice games to sharpen tactics and technique. As Nick Bollitieri says “you must practice with a purpose”. These sessions are designed to give a taste of the key issues team players should address, and give players improved understanding of good technique and tactics.

BRITISH TENNIS MEMBERSHIP 2012

This year we are asking all players to sign up to British Tennis membership, so that we can get them a membership Number and record their results on the LTA website. If everyone has a number then every match will count and we can record the progress of players and establish a rating for everyone.

This will improve standards of competition for every player – so don’t be shy – sign up!!!

GET COMPETING
There are a lot of opportunities to compete not only in Tournaments but also in Matchplay events throughout the County. Look at the LTA website www.lta.org.uk and click on Competition on the top menu. Click on Individual Com-petition and browse the page which has lots of links to County events, organisers and player contact details. Click on Competition listings by County /Oxfordshire and select the age group you want to compete in this year. Use the age group guide to make sure of your correct group and choose to enter Grade 6 Junior Tournaments if you are starting out with a rating of 10.2

New Indoor Mini Tennis Club

Throughout the Summer the Red and Orange groups have thrived, with every session including an element of
competition. As part of our effort to build a competitive structure, in 2012 Timed Tennis Competition will be a regular part of the termtime programme.
SUMMER 2011
Real Tennis Weather – the Summer was great – hot and dry, mainly – and over 100 Junior players supported the reg-ular weekly sessions and Tennis Camps with John, Jenny and Gareth. A Grade 4 Junior Tournament attracted an entry of over 80 players, in all age groups, including some good performances from West End Juniors – and next year on 20th August we plan to have a stronger West End entry, especially in the Mini Tennis age groups
Jenny and Gareth have continued with a joint Summer coaching programme for Red and Orange groups with great outcomes for our young players. Many thanks to our assistants Millie, Abi and Jo, who have supported the pro-gramme throughout the Summer. They help the coaches to ensure that every player enjoys the session, and gets that extra attention so important when improving skills and learning how to play well.
The most able players are now playing Tiebreaks, games and sets during sessions, and every player gets the chance to compete at their ability level.
WINTER COACHING GROUPS
Players are coached in 3 categories
BEGINNERS INDOORS at BGN with Gareth and Corey call 07817 433784
Have played 1 or 2 seasons or are New to Tennis from 5 to 9 years old, learning ABC’s and Rally skills with drills and games.
IMPROVERS at West End with Gareth call 07817 433784
Junior Group—mixed abilities from 10 years learning new skills, technique and tactics.
ADVANCED at West End with Corey call 07793 089321
Players who show aptitude, have a good level of skills, and are excited and enthusiastic about Tennis, are working towards or have matchplay experience, and are committed to achieving new levels of performance with the aim of competing in 2012 as part of a team or in individual match-play events.

New Advanced Coach Appointed

Corey Butler joins West End as Advanced Player Coach

Corey played College Tennis in the USA and as a Northampton County Junior.

He is an experienced Club Coach, having worked at Brackley and Kings Sutton Tennis Clubs.

As a sport and exercise student he has worked with high level performance players from the Win Tennis Squad at Bisham Abbey including a member of the British Davis cup team.

He has worked hard to achieve advanced coaching qualifications and is a Level 4 UKCC coach.

2010: BSc Sport and Exercise Science (University of Northampton).
2010: Institute of Leadership and Management: certificate of leadership and management.
2008: LTA Club Coach Award (CCA).
2007: Registro Professional de Tenis (RPT).
2006: LTA Development Coach Award (DCA).

Corey can also offer a professional Racket Restringing service.
